FAQ
Q: How does the Rigging wiki work?
A: The goal of the project is to author a reference book for parachute riggers by using a wiki. Volunteer editors with a rigging licence write articles and post them on the wiki. Other editors will then read the articles and improve on them.
At some stage, when there are enough articles and the content of the articles can be considered ready, the wiki will be locked and the contents exported into a pdf-file or similar. The "book" will then be submitted to several bodies, such as national aeroclubs and aviation authorities, for review. Following such a review and (hopefully) approval, riggers would now have a new reference book to work with. Once the approved version is published, work will be started on the wiki again to keep it up to date. After some time the contents would be locked again and the new version submitted for review.
Q: How can I trust the content when anyone can edit a wiki?
A: The Rigging wiki can only be edited by its appointed editors. Anonymous edits are not possible, and creating user accounts has been limited to the administrators only. That said, it is not the intention that people use the actual wiki as a reference, but rather the "locked version" which has been reviewed and approved. There is no locked version yet, as the project is still in its starting stages.
Q: Who will decide who can become an editor?
A: Anyone with a rigging licence and a working knowledge of English can become an editor. Fill out the form and an administrator will send you an email containing a username and a password.
Q: Who owns the copyright for the contents of the Rigging wiki?
A: As with any work, the author holds the copyright. In the case of the Rigging wiki, the contributing editors jointly hold the copyright. The contents are published under the Creative Commons (by-nd) license, giving anyone the right to copy and distribute the work, as long as they attribute the work to the authors, and do not alter the work in any way. More information about the license can be found here: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/2.5/
Q: How is the project funded?
A: The project has very limited expenses, and as such it is easily funded by private individuals.
Q: Is someone making money off the project?
A: No. This project is based on voluntary work, and the aim is to publish a free refence book for anyone to use as they please.
